Mayor LaToya Cantrell and her former police bodyguard Jeffrey Vappie have a new trial date in their federal corruption case , one of Vappie's attorneys confirmed Thursday.
Cantrell and Vappie, who are accused of scheming to cover up an illicit affair, are scheduled to go to trial on Oct. 19, 2026, defense attorney Shaun Clarke said.
Cantrell and Vappie pleaded not guilty last week to counts stemming from an Aug. 15 grand jury indictment that included 18 criminal counts, including wire fraud, conspiracy to obstruct justice and lying to a federal grand jury.
Vappie already faced wire fraud and false statement counts from last summer before the superseding indictment.
