The 24-year-old man accused of shooting five police officers in a Wednesday ambush in York County was a former Boy Scout and outdoorsman who grew up in a nearby suburban neighborhood, neighbors told PennLive.
Matthew Ruth and his brother fired BB guns at targets in the yard of their home on the 200 block of Hall Drive in Penn Township, outside Hanover, neighbors said.
