Two people were injured Thursday morning when a VTA light-rail train collided with a box truck in San Jose, authorities said.

At about 8:55 a.m., San Jose fire crews responded to multiple reports of a vehicle accident involving VTA near North First Street and Interstate 880, the fire department said.

A light rail train struck a white box truck that reportedly made an illegal U-turn, officials said. The driver and passenger in the box truck suffered minor injuries, but neither was in need of rescue or extrication from the vehicle.

A bus bridge was in place between Metro and Civic Center stations while the crash was cleared, VTA said.

There were about 40 passengers on board the train, and no reported injuries to those riders.
