The Los Angeles Police Department on Thursday identified the officer who shot an allegedly armed man in Boyle Heights Sunday night.

Officer Brian Cuba opened fire on the man, 30-year-old Francisco Garcia, in the alley of an apartment complex in the 2400 block of Boulder Street at about 10:45 p.m., police said in a news release.

Garcia, who'd been pursued by officers after he'd allegedly been spotted holding an open container of alcohol, "produced a handgun from his waistband area," prompting Cuba to open fire.

Garcia was hospitalized in stable condition, and no one else was hurt.

"A loaded 9mm Taurus pistol, with a seated high-capacity magazine, was recovered at the scene and booked as evidence," police said.
