A hazardous waste landfill is due for license renewal and seeks expansion

Wayne Disposal Inc. has gained massive amounts of public outrage over the past year
Wayne County residents have expressed concerns with the toxic waste facility Wayne Disposal Inc. for more than a year, after the landfill planned to accept materials from the Manhattan Project in 2024.
Since then, more confusion and fear have spread among residents as the landfill proposed to expand its capacity by using more air space.
The landfill is currently operating on an expired license and the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy (EGLE) has drafted the waste facility’s new operating license with the proposed expansion.
