Red Lodge Fire Rescue responded to a couple injured in a moose encounter south of Red Lodge Thursday morning.

According to a Facebook post by Red Lodge Fire Rescue , the couple was walking their dogs on Bull Moose Lane, before they encountered a cow, calf and bull moose in the roadway. The cow moose viewed the dogs as a threat and chased them.

In the process, the couple were injured. Cow moose typically weigh around 600 to 800 pounds, according to Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks' field guide . Cow moose are noted to be "very protective of calves" in the guide. Moose can reach speeds up to 35 miles per hour, according to the National Forest Foundation .
