An investigation continues after a man ran from New Mexico State Police officers on Interstate 40 in Albuquerque on Wednesday.

According to New Mexico State Police, a state police officer stopped to help a truck that was stopped in the far right lane of the interstate and obstructing traffic near the Carlisle exit along I-40.

As the officer was on scene, state police say the officer learned the truck was stolen. The person inside the vehicle was identified as Dale Hinds.

State police say during the incident, Hinds ran from the state police officer on foot towards I-40 crossing eastbound lanes of the freeway. Hinds then tried to cross the westbound lanes when he was hit by another vehicle. Hinds died on scene.

State police say Hinds had several active warrants pending.
