Residents of a Perrysburg Township subdivision resoundingly said “not in my backyard” to a potential multistory apartment complex, and the township trustees agreed.

At a public hearing Wednesday, the trustees voted to reject the rezoning request of two parcels of land from A-1, agricultural and R-3, suburban residential district, to R-5, multiple family residential district.

The 48 acres are on the east side of Oregon Road, west of Tracy Road and south of the Lakemont subdivision. The property is owned by Peggy Yant Thatcher, who lives in Evans, Ga.

The trustees, after hearing from several Lakemont residents, encouraged Mrs. Thatcher, who was at the meeting with her husband, Robert, to reapply for R-3 residential rezoning, which would better mirror that area.
