A 76-year-old woman from New Jersey died Sept. 17 after collapsing on Mesa Arch Trail in Canyonlands National Park, according to the National Park Service’s Southeast Utah Group.
Rangers responded in the late afternoon to a report of CPR in progress near the trailhead. Bystanders performed resuscitation on Lois Marcasciano of Pittsgrove, N.J., when emergency personnel arrived.
Crews from the San Juan County Sheriff’s Office, Grand County EMS and Classic Air Medical assisted, but Marcasciano was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Southeast Utah Group said the incident remains under investigation with the San Juan County Sheriff’s Office. Officials said no additional information is available.
Park staff thanked local agencies for their assistance.
