JASPER COUNTY, S.C. — A South Carolina prison inmate is facing new charges after allegedly assaulting an employee at the facility.

The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division said that the suspect, 45-year-old Darious Lamont Moore, was being housed at Ridgeland Correctional Institution when the attack occurred on July 16. Investigators said Moore entered the victim's office, turned off the lights and blocked the door before attacking the victim and forcing them to the floor. Moore also allegedly ripped open the victim's clothing in the crotch area in an attempt to sexually assault them.

Warrants state that trustees at the prison heard yelling and intervened to stop the assault.
