Baton Rouge police announced they have arrested a man suspected of fatally shooting another man Saturday evening on Sycamore Street.

Tre’Vionte Simpson, 27, of Baton Rouge was arrested Monday and booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on counts of second-degree murder, illegal possession of firearms and felon in possession.

Simpson is suspected of shooting 27-year-old Jaray Washington. Police found Washington unresponsive with multiple gunshot wounds after being called to a Sycamore Street address around 7:45 p.m. Saturday. Police believe Washington attempted to intervene in an argument before Simpson shot him. Washington was transported to a hospital where he died from his injuries, police said Sunday morning.
