Let's not cue the wedding bells quite yet.
Following the highly anticipated series finale and a surprise movie announcement, Jenny Han and the cast of "The Summer I Turned Pretty" made an appearance on "Good Morning America" on Thursday, Sept. 18, to discuss the future of the franchise as well as details surrounding a potential release date for the film.
"I can say that there is another big milestone for Belly (Lola Tung), so we'll continue with that journey," Han said on the morning show.
As for a potential release date for "The Summer I Turned Pretty: The Movie," Han said, "It's still a little too soon to say." She did acknowledge that she and co-showrunner Sarah Kucserka have finished a draft, saying, "We're chugging along."
"We don't know when it's coming out, but not next year," Han said. "We still have to make it."
Here's everything we know about "The Summer I Turned Pretty: The Movie" and the series' future.
Why 'The Summer I Turned Pretty: The Movie' over a Season 4?
Han, author of the book trilogy and executive producer of the show of the same name, told Entertainment Weekly in a Sept. 18 interview that she felt that "Bonrad's" reunion (that's Belly and Conrad) in Season 3 was needed "to fully tell that story" because the "journey was so much about Belly's coming of age."
"And then it would've been like a quick tacked-on beat at the end to get to any of the stuff in the epilogue in the book," Han told the outlet. "And I just really wanted to give its due."
"The Summer I Turned Pretty: The Movie" is a way for Han to give fans more of what they want, including Belly and Conrad (Christoper Briney) happily in love, which is similar to how fans got to see what Belly and Jeremiah's (Gavin Casalegno) relationship was like in Season 3.
"And we had also been through a whole season of Belly and Jeremiah's wedding, and I wanted to have space for whatever the next step is," Han told Entertainment Weekly.
As to why Han chose to do a movie opposed to a fourth season, she said a film would be the best way to chronicle Belly's "big milestone," adding that "(the show) feels very complete to me as three seasons."
"Another season would be just a lot more story to cover and also a lot more conflict (that) I think people don't really want," Han told Entertainment Weekly. "They were so eager to get Belly and Conrad together. Do you really want like a season of problems for them? Because that's the thing with story is that there has to be conflict."
What will 'The Summer I Turned Pretty' movie be about?
Han and partner Amazon Prime Video are keeping details about the movie close to the vest, at least for now. Fans could see Belly and Conrad get married at the summer house, a pivotal scene not included in the Season 3 finale.
Belly and Conrad's beach wedding was one of the last, if not the last, scenes in Han's third and final book, "We'll Always Have Summer."
In her recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Han shared that the storyline for the movie covers "sort of what happens next."
She said: "It's like, 'What happens when you are dating your ex's brother? And you have to see them and you have to be in their life still. What does that look like?'"
