Florida basketball has reinstated Vernon Maxwell’s program records, once again making him the program’s all-time scoring leader.
Maxwell is also the No. 3 all-time scorer in the history of the SEC after scoring 2,450 points during four seasons from 1985 to 1989 as he averaged 18.8 points per game and was critical in leading the Gators to their first NCAA tournament appearance.
The NCAA imposed two years of sanctions on the Gators and ruled Maxwell ineligible for the 1987 and 1988 NCAA tournaments because he had an agent. Former UF athletic director, Bill Arnsparger followed that decision by stripping Maxwell of all his individual stats during those two seasons.
However, after 35 years current Florida athletic director Scott Stricklin reinstated Maxwells’s numbers.
