ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. -- The St. Joseph County Police Department announced they've received several reports of scammers calling families of inmates and demanding money to "bond them out."
Police say the scammers are telling families they need to pay right away, or they'll move on to the next inmate.
Scammers will then take credit card info over the phone.
Police say this not only 100 percent a scam, but that the only way to bond someone out of the St. Joseph County Jail is to come to the jail in person, be 18 or older with valid ID, and pay with cash or card, which must match your ID.
Police will never call anyone asking for money, meet anyone anywhere else or put a “time limit” on when you can pay. Share
