ROCHESTER, Minn. — In the middle of Southeastern Minnesota's vast soybean and corn fields, a small patch of land is making a big impact. Pine Farms in northeast Rochester is cultivating a taste of home for African immigrant farmers.
This unique farm recently captured the interest of lawmakers from Minnesota and other Midwestern states, who toured the operation. For the past decade, Pine Farms has been growing African culinary staples alongside familiar favorites like Swiss chard, peppers, and tomatoes. This year, they are even experimenting with a trial run of rice.
Adding to the farm's diversity, Pine Farms has introduced 30 goats, which have become a hit with children.
