AKRON, Ohio — Federal prosecutors on Thursday announced charges against more than 30 people accused of drug trafficking and firearms offenses in the Akron area following a 60-day investigation that targeted the city's most violent neighborhoods.
The U.S. Attorney's Office for the Northern District of Ohio said 17 federal indictments were unsealed, and 10 additional defendants will face state charges. A series of coordinated arrests wrapped up Thursday morning, though one federal defendant remains at large.
During the investigation, law enforcement seized 32 pistols, one revolver, six rifles, two suppressors, and a machine gun conversion device, along with nearly 5 kilograms of methamphetamine, more than 400 grams of fentanyl, and quantities of cocaine, heroin and marijuana.
