The public transit strike in the Cowichan Valley has come to an end, more than seven months after it began.
On Thursday, Unifor Local 114, which represents transit drivers, cleaners and mechanics in the Cowichan Valley, said job action was ending after the union and Transdev – the company contracted by BC Transit to operate buses in the area – agreed to a provincial mediator’s recommendations.
The strike lasted 222 days, from Feb. 8 until Sept. 18, making it the longest transit strike in B.C. history, a milestone it surpassed back in June.
“We thank our members for standing up for what they believed in and fighting for fairness for transit drivers across the system,” said Unifor national president Lana Payne in a statement.
