CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KFVS) - Trendy skincare products can be fun, but health officials warn items designed to be whimsical or attention-getting may be less effective.
In August, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration sent warning letters to five companies about a sunscreen product in mousse form.
According to authorities, sunscreen mousse may come in a container that resembles a canister of whipped cream. The product may also be less effective than other types of sunscreen due to its airy consistency.
Board-certified dermatologist Dr. Allison Sindle said the only FDA-approved forms of sunscreen are creams, lotions and sprays.
“I see the reason people want it, that it’s very lightweight texture to put on, but it really is not going to give you the adequate protection that you need.”
