HURST, Texas — Police Chief Steve Niekamp, the head of the Hurst Police Department since 2018, has died, according to the City of Hurst.
In a post to social media, the City wrote that the 56-year-old passed unexpectedly due to a health complication.
Niekamp was a lifelong Hurst resident and a graduate of L.D. Bell High School. He had been with Hurst PD since 1990 and was named police chief in 2018.
“Chief Niekamp dedicated his life to serving the Hurst community," said City Manager Clay Caruthers. "He consistently led with integrity and demonstrated unwavering loyalty and appreciation to his team. Chief Niekamp will be dearly missed."
The City stated that his exceptional leadership and commitment to serving Hurst residents with the highest level of professionalism will leave an impact.
