WOODSTOCK (WREX) — A couple of former IHSA state champions and Rockford Men's Classic champions are trying to take the next steps in their golf careers. Winnebago High School grad Marcus Smith and Boylan grad TJ Baker are competing in the PGA Tour Q-School Pre-Qualifying tournament at Bull Valley Golf Club in Woodstock this week.

The three round tournament wraps up Friday, with Baker tied for 26th with a +4 through two rounds. Smith is tied for 50th with a +10 through two rounds. The top 40 players plus ties advance to the first round of PGA Tour Q-School Qualifying. Players from all over the country are competing in the tournament.

Smith finished his college golf career at Howard this past spring, being named All-Northeast Conference 1st Team. He won a state championship with Winnebago
