LOOMIS, Neb. (KSNB) - Loomis school officials are asking voters in Phelps and Harlan counties to approve an $18.25 million bond to renovate and expand the district’s facilities.

The proposal includes new classroom space, renovations to older parts of the building and a new indoor gymnasium. Superintendent Nate Weaver said safety and accessibility remain the top priorities.

“The main thing with safe places is we have a lot of older facility areas that do not incorporate ADA compliance,” Weaver said. “We want to make the areas safer for students, patrons and people coming into the building.”

Some community members agree updates are needed but question the timing and cost, especially with low corn prices affecting the local farming economy.
