KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - The new Jackson County Detention Center is just months away from getting the keys.

On Thursday, Jackson County Prosecutor Melesa Johnson and Jackson County Executive Frank White toured the facility, giving feedback on the nearly completed facility.

Johnson said she’s most impressed with the quality of the building, stating that a facility like this will make everyone’s job easier.

“Quality detention space is an absolute necessity when you talk about the criminal justice system,” Johnson said. “Judges can’t do what they do, prosecutors can’t do what we do, and police can’t do what they do without understanding that if somebody does go awry or violates the code of conduct or violates a law in Jackson County that there is somewhere to detain them.
