The Bruins will go into the 2025-26 season without a captain, a decision that was reached by general manager Don Sweeney and coach Marco Sturm .

For Ray Bourque, who captained the Bruins from 1985-2000, he sees it as the team wanting to see "a couple guys to step up and to take charge and to show that they’re the guy."

“I think they haven’t seen that yet, so that’s why you’re seeing three assistants,” Bourque said on WEEI on Wednesday .

The Bruins finished the final weeks of last season without anyone wearing the ‘C’ after the team traded Brad Marchand to the eventual Stanley Cup champion Panthers at the deadline. He signed a six-year extension to remain with Florida over the summer.
