Dawson’s Creek star Mary-Margaret Humes is opening up about her private battle with colon cancer for the first time publicly.

Mary-Margaret disclosed her 2007 diagnosis during the recent Dawson’s Creek reunion special published by Us Weekly . The 71-year-old actress revealed that she had resonated deeply with fellow star James Van Der Beek , who shared his own stage three colon cancer diagnosis in 2023.

“It was just about ready to break out of the wall. It could’ve been a terrible situation, but we caught it in time. My doctor said we dodged a bullet, and it was all because of early detection. Cancers are survivable, but go out and get screened — thankfully, that’s part of James ’ journey,” she told the outlet.
