SKOWHEGAN -- Two adults and three juveniles were taken into custody after an hours-long standoff with police in Skowhegan Wednesday night.
Skowhegan Police Chief David Bucknam says at around 3:30 Wednesday afternoon, an officer was checking a Beech Street residence for 21-year-old Janathian Viles of Fairfield, who police say had numerous pending charges against him.
The officer spotted Viles going inside the residence and called for backup. Viles was also believed to be armed.
The Maine State Police Tactical Team was also called in to assist, and negotiations were ongoing for several hours.
Chief Bucknam says he was aware of numerous Snapchat videos posted on social media from inside the residence, showing the individuals inside "laughing, smoking, and not taking the situation seriousl
