Desert Hot Springs' Animal Care and Control facility and shelter was temporarily closed due to a power outage caused by a fire, the city said on Thursday.
The fire damaged a transformer and power pole, Desert Hot Springs said on Facebook. This resulted in the emergency closure of the entire facility on Hacienda Avenue and Cholla Drive — made up Animal Care and Control and the city's Corporate Yard, where it stores its vehicles — until further notice. The city plans to eventually make Corporate Yard into a sports park .
Desert Hot Springs asked residents to stay clear of Hacienda Avenue and Cholla Drive while the site is secured. Animals remained at the facility and staff continued to care for them.
