FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Attorney General Tim Griffin announced Sept. 18 that the City of Fayetteville is now in compliance with state law, just a day after his office released an opinion stating that the city had violated Arkansas' sanctuary city law.
The initial opinion stemmed from a report related to Fayetteville Mayor Molly Rawn's comments after an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) stop in the city on June 16.
On June 18, State Rep. Kendon Underwood requested an opinion from Griffin's office stating the city's response to the incident was against the Arkansas law. He called for a freeze in funding until the city became compliant.
