ATHENS, Texas (KETK)-- Athens residents had the opportunity to meet with State Rep. Trent Ashby, R-(Lufkin), on Thursday afternoon as he continues his campaign for the District 3 seat in the Texas Senate.

Ashby hosted a meet-and-greet at the Jalapeno Tree in Athens, giving people the opportunity to hear from him directly. Ashby also spoke about his campaign and proposals he would make if elected to the Texas Senate.

Ashby announced his campaign for the Senate in June, shortly after Senator Robert Nichols announced he would not be seeking re-election. Ashby released a statement shortly after his announcement promising to protect East Texans' way of life.
