COLUMBIA, S.C. — High pressure continues to control the weather across the Midlands and will strengthen by Friday and Saturday, bringing plenty of sunshine and warmer temperatures heading into the weekend.

Thursday afternoon was warm and mostly sunny with winds staying light. Temperatures Thursday afternoon climbed into the upper 80s and low 90s, surpassing the average high of 85 degrees for this time of year.

Thursday night, skies will be mostly clear with low temperatures falling into the mid to upper 60s through the overnight hours.

Friday will begin with mostly sunny skies with a few clouds possible throughout the day. Friday will be another very warm afternoon with high temperatures warming up the low 90s for many areas across the Midlands.
