LAMONI, Iowa —

A fast-moving storm Wednesday afternoon sent a large tree branch crashing into Nancy Crovetti’s Lamoni front yard, rattling her home and nerves.

"I felt the house shake," Crovetti said.

When she opened her door, Crovetti found the branch torn from a front-yard tree and resting on her doorstep, just feet from overhead lines.

"I was stunned," she said.

Despite the close call, the power stayed on.

"It literally jumped over the power lines," Crovetti said, marveling that the lines didn’t come down with the branch.

Cleanup started quickly thanks to neighbors who showed up with helping hands and tools.

"They came and helped me. Just amazing," Crovetti said.
