DUBUQUE, Iowa (KWWL) — Former Iowa Republican Congressman Rod Blum announced his candidacy Thursday for Congress in Iowa’s Second Congressional District.

Earlier this month, incumbent Ashley Hinson announced plans to run for Senate after Senator Joni Ernst announced she won't be seeking re-election .

Blum previously represented northeast Iowa in Congress from 2015 to 2018. He's already announced plans to personally invest $250,000 to launch his campaign.

When asked why he's looking to run again, Blum said “Representing the voters of Eastern Iowa in Congress was the honor of my lifetime, and I am ready to serve them again."
