ROCHESTER HILLS – Birmingham Seaholm flashed the kind of depth necessary to be a state contender in its final OAA Red match of the season Thursday at Stoney Creek.

The Cougars scrapped to take some late 1-on-1 battles, but by then the Maples, ranked No. 1 in Division 2, already had a victory in the bag, 6-2.

“Stoney Creek is a team that’s always played us tough,” Seaholm head coach Nick Shaheen said. “Coach (Dave) Pietrangelo is a high quality coach and his teams are always well-disciplined and well-coached. The last couple years, we’ve actually lost to them in duals, so this is a nice response from us.

“We were just looking for growth in this match. Every match is different and we’ve just got to continue to work and improve. I thought we had that growth today, especially in doubles.”
