LUBBOCK, Texas- After decades in the dark, the Wallace Theater is ready to light up its marquee once again. The historic downtown landmark will celebrate its grand reopening Saturday following a $5.5 million renovation funded by more than 1,300 donors.

Built in 1928, the Wallace once served as the heart of Levelland entertainment before closing in the late 1980s. Its revival began in 2002 when George and Iris Keeling purchased the building with hopes of restoring it. After George’s death in 2016, their daughter, Alycyn Keeling, took the lead on fulfilling the dream.

“This was the greatest gift he ever gave me to have this dream,” Keeling said.
