A motorist has been praised for rushing to the aid of a huge python on a busy regional road.

Footage captured by Maaika Cahill shows the unidentified man carefully carrying the large snake to a grassy area on the other side of the road near Maleny, a rural town on the Sunshine Coast.

"My husband and I came across this guy who had pulled over and stopped us so he could safely move a python off the road," she said.

"We need more good news stories, and didn't think a good deed like that should go unnoticed.

"Later on, we ran into him at the golf club and got to thank him in person - nice guy," Ms Cahill said.
