SUN PRAIRIE, Wis. — A legal battle is unfolding in Sun Prairie as a parent takes action against the school board. Justin Smith is demanding transparency and accountability following allegations that staff misconduct concerns were ignored.
"We're asking the courts to get involved and to declare that these recent closed sessions are unlawful," said Smith.
The lawsuit, which includes a restraining order and a civil complaint, accuses the school board of repeatedly holding closed-door meetings. This follows the arrest of a former dean of students on child pornography charges.
"Mainly what that does is it allows him to make a decision temporarily while we're fighting the civil litigation, because I felt like every week now there's another closed session that's unlawful," said Smith.
