GREENVILLE, S.C. (FOX Carolina) - The City of Greenville reports the Children’s Museum of the Upstate dedicated its new garden to the wife of Greenville’s former mayor.

Officials said the museum’s new Heller Garden is dedicated in memory of Trude Heller, former mayor Max Heller’s wife. They are both Holocaust survivors who came to Greenville in the 1940s.

Francie Heller, their daughter, said, “My parents had a strong love of Greenville. An immigrant, forced to leave his home and country with $1.60 in his pocket, was welcomed and flourished here.”

The garden’s interactive play areas, which include a scavenger hunt for young visitors and a vibrant mural by Adam Schrimmer of Blank Canvas Mural Company, reflect Trude’s passion for meeting children, officials said.
