HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — The family of a man shot and killed by Huntsville Police in 2023 has filed a federal lawsuit against the city and police department.
The family of Sterling Arnold, who died after he was shot in an on-duty shooting on Sept 14, 2023, has filed a federal lawsuit alleging excessive force and wrongful death against the City of Huntsville, the Huntsville Police Department and two unnamed HPD officers.
At the time of the shooting, Huntsville Police said officers responded to a call at 6:07 p.m. on Monroe Street.
The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency said that once they arrived at the location, HPD officers encountered Arnold, who had a handgun. During the incident, Arnold was shot and later died, according to ALEA.
