The City of Stirling has defended the 37 per cent increase in its swimming pool inspection charge.
Ratepayers with a pool or spa will pay $55 this year, up from $40 last year, an increase one ratepayer described to The West as “exorbitant”.
A city spokesperson said the city had kept the charge increase “well below” the maximum set by the State Government.
He said Government changes to building regulations in June 2024 required local governments to re-inspect non-compliant barriers within 60 days and continue to do so until compliance was achieved.
“To cover the expected rise in inspections, the State Government increased the maximum annual charge for inspections from $58.45 to $78,” he said.
