More than $50 million has been set aside for a new aged care facility in Broken Hill by the federal government.

The three-story building with 90 beds will replace the 58-bed Aruma Lodge.

The money for Southern Cross Care (SCC) Queensland — which operates Aruma Lodge, Howard Williams Home and St Anne's Nursing Home in Broken Hill — was announced this week.

SCC's chief executive Jason Eldering said it was an "amazing result" for the community.

Mr Eldering said after working in aged care for more than two decades, he was taken back by the $50 million they received.

"This changes the whole landscape of aged care in Broken Hill,"

he said.

"It's really quite extraordinary — it's definitely the largest grant I've ever seen."
