LOUISVILLE, Ky. — When he started working at UPS, cellphones, the internet and barcodes didn’t exist.

Cleveland Francis, 82, watched everything come to life during his 58 years of service with the company. Francis recently retired and is one of the longest servicing drivers in UPS history.

When Francis started working for UPS in 1967 Lyndon B. Johnson was President and gasoline was around 32 cents a gallon.

“It’s a job,” Francis said. “I always enjoyed driving.”

“Cleve,” as he’s affectionately called, is also a member of the UPS Circle of Honor for his decades of safe driving. It’s an exclusive club that only a small handful of drivers belong to. He’s logged five million miles as a driver and that’s 11 trips to the moon and back.
