A PASSENGER on board a mid air easyJet flight to holiday hotspot Lanzarote has tragically died.

Crew members did everything they could to save the traveller on the flight from France to the Spanish island, the airline said.

EasyJet told Le Parisien the medical emergency unfolded "during the approach to the arrival" of the arrival in Lanzarote, Canary Islands.

The captain triggered a distress signal after he was alerted of the passenger's condition.

The plane then "performed a routine landing in accordance with standard procedures", according to the airline.

The passenger's cause of death is currently unknown.

The airliner said: "Our crews are trained to respond to medical issues and did everything possible during the flight."
