Hawaii Island police invite youth ages 8 to 17 to take part in the first-ever Kawamoto Classic Swimming Event, hosted by the department’s Hawaii Island Police Activities League (HI-PAL) in partnership with the county Parks and Recreation Aquatics Division and USA Swimming.

The free event will be held from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 27, at the Charles “Sparky” Kawamoto Swim Stadium, 260 Kalanikoa St. in Hilo.

The Kawamoto Classic is designed to introduce keiki to aquatic sports and promote water safety.

Activities will include water polo demonstrations, diving instruction, and swimming techniques led by student volunteers, coaches and staff from Waiakea and Hilo schools.
