Redhawk Publications is holding a literary gathering on Saturday, Oct. 4, in Marion.

Two of the writers to be featured will be McDowell County's own — Julia Nunnally Duncan, who has written numerous books of poetry and prose, and Les Brown, of the North Cove community, who has written works based on his mountain upbringing.

The event “An Evening with Western NC Mountain Writers” will be held on from 4-6 p.m. at St. John’s Episcopal Parish House, 339 S. Main St., Marion, according to a news release from organizers.

This event will showcase a talented lineup of Redhawk Publications authors, each sharing voices and stories rooted in the heritage and culture of western North Carolina. It will be an afternoon of readings, discussion and live music celebrating the region’s literary and artist
