Brett James, the singer-songwriter inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2020 who penned Jesus Take the Wheel (made popular by Carrie Underwood), died at the age of 57 on Thursday, according to multiple reports.

What was the cause of death? Per Fox17 in Nashville, "Three people have died in a small-engine plane crash near Franklin, North Carolina, according to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA)." One of them was James.

The aforementioned Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame posted a heartfelt message on Instagram about James, mourning the loss of the music star with the rest of the music world and beyond:
