A teacher told a professional standards inquiry that sleeping with an 18-year-old former pupil in a hotel room was a "one-off" – but the fling ultimately cost her a relationship after her then-partner spotted a message from the student appear on her phone.

At the fitness-to-teach hearing, the woman admitted the encounter was inappropriate but insisted she saw the man as a past student at the time. The Teaching Council claims she had a romantic relationship with him during the summer of 2018.
