Afraid for the health and safety of their families, nearby citizens largely opposed the expansion and license renewal of Michigan’s largest hazardous waste facility at a public hearing on Wednesday, Sept. 18.
"We shouldn't be the nation's dumping ground," Jeneen Rippey of Van Buren Township, president of the activist group Michigan Against Atomic Waste, said during public comments at the meeting, hosted by the Michigan department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy (EGLE).
