Worcester’s Indian Lake will receive treatment on Monday to prevent the growth of algae, the city announced Friday morning.
The city is advising people not to go into the lake, not to use boats and to keep their pets out of the water during the treatment, according to city spokesperson Thomas Matthews.
Copper sulfate, a chemical used to kill bacteria, weeds and algae, will be put inside the lake, according to Matthews. He notes there is no algae in the lake right now and the treatment is being done to prevent any from growing.
The city is also advising residents not to use water for plants, lawns or livestock during the treatment. The restrictions on water will be lifted on Tuesday, Matthews said.
