BROADVIEW — Protesters were tear gassed, shot with pepper spray bullets and some detained by ICE officers outside of a facility in suburban Broadview Friday morning.
Large crowds gathered to protest early Friday outside of a boarded up U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility, 1930 Beach St., in Broadview. ICE agents in unmarked vehicles opened the gates and slowly drove into a crowd of demonstrators blocking the facility’s exit to protest the Trump administration’s Operation Midway Blitz, which has led to dozens of arrests of local immigrants in recent weeks.
Agents clad head-to-toe in military gear and some carrying large guns tossed cans of tear gas into the crowd while an officer on the roof of the building fired off pepper balls.
