The Higgins Park Tennis Club is planning to celebrate 60 years of making a racquet.

The club on Playfield Street in East Victoria Park will hold an open day on Saturday, October 4, from 1pm to mark its diamond anniversary.

Newly elected club president and life member Angela Luttrell said all past members and their families, as well as all members of the community, were invited to play some social tennis or pickleball.

A memory lane of memorabilia and photos is also planned, and the event will still go ahead in the club hall if it rains.

“The club has come a long way since it started with just four hardcourts and a bamboo hut,” Ms Luttrell said.
