MIDDLETON, Wis. (WKOW) — Girls aged 13 to 18 will explore aviation careers Saturday at Girls in Aviation Day at Middleton Airport.

The event, hosted by the Four Lakes Chapter of Women in Aviation International, runs from 1 to 4 p.m. and aims to inspire the next generation of female aviation professionals.

The Federal Aviation Administration reports that nearly 11% of pilots in the U.S. are women, a number the organization hopes to see grow.

June Swanson, a young girl involved in local aviation, is eager to contribute to this change.

“There’s not many women in this field right now, so I want to try and get more women to join,” Swanson said.

Swanson first discovered her interest in flying through the Young Eagles program, which provides free flights to youth interested in aviation.
